McDermott Library is a part of UT Dallas’ first comprehensive fundraising campaign that was announced in March – Realize the Vision: The Campaign for Tier One and Beyond. The library is a component in the effort to be designated as a national research university.
UT Dallas President David E. Daniel said the campaign seeks to raise $200 million by 2014. The library’s goal is to raise $500,000 by that date.
“Our vision is to continue to build a library worthy of a Tier One research university,” said Dr. Ellen Safley, director of libraries. “It is only through the generosity of donors that we can have the tools, talents and resources required to reimagine and reshape the living laboratory that is McDermott Library.”
Recent UT Dallas graduate Archie Nettles admitted that when he first came to campus the library was mysterious to him. He later became one of the first to sign up for a new library student advisory board. “I really wanted to understand the dynamics of the library, as it is so important to UT Dallas students,” he said. “Maybe the most important place on campus.”
Anyone wishing to support McDermott Library’s campaign should contact the Office of Development & Alumni Relations at 972-883-2960 or visit the UT Dallas Campaign website. The library also has a Friends of the Library program and gifts and endowment plans.
