Authority and Jurisdiction

The UT Dallas Police Department is a fully commissioned police department. All UT Dallas police officers are classified as State Peace Officers, commissioned by the University of Texas System Police with primary jurisdiction in all Texas counties in which property is owned, leased, rented, or otherwise under the control of the University of Texas System. Authority is granted through the Texas Education Code, Section 51.203 and Article 2.12 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

UT Dallas police officers are vested with all the powers, privileges, and immunities of peace officers, and may, in accordance with Chapter 14 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, arrest without a warrant any person who violates a law of the state, and may enforce all traffic laws on streets and highways.

The UT Dallas Police Department limits its reporting authority and jurisdiction to the main UT Dallas campus and contiguous streets and roads as well as The Callier Center Dallas; Center for BrainHealth, Dallas; and Center for Vital Longevity, Dallas.

The UT Dallas Police Department maintains an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Richardson for fire and EMS response, 911 coordination, and other emergency services on an as-needed basis.
